◆ Commiserations to Shoreditch nightclub boss Shmail Khan – or ‘Rocky’ to his friends – who recently failed in his bid to reopen a late-night bar at the former Cargo premises, after twice having had his licence revoked. He can take the bitter with the better, however. Khan has been appointed to at least 22 limited companies in the past – six of which he is currently the director. The names of these companies follow a bit of a theme: Chestnut Gardens, Lemon Gardens, Avocado Gardens, Clementine Gardens Ltd, Coconut Gardens, Pineapple Gardens Ltd Whatever the future holds, it certainly looks fruitful, Rocky!

◆ Titbits was delighted to see the Hackney Citizen earn a high commendation at the national Newspaper Awards this month. The judges said the paper “tackles the big issues brilliantly”, adding: “With elegant design and strong news content, it’s a near-perfect title that always impresses…” They even called it “classy”. If only they knew, eh?
