Making the grade: Hackney students A-level and BTEC results 2024
Students across Hackney were celebrating today (15 August 2024) as they received their A-level and BTEC results.
The Urswick School
The Urswick School students achieved record results with top grades that were over 15 per cent higher than last year.
The school’s relatively small sixth form achieved over 100 A* to C grades in total with 35 per cent of these grades A* to B.
Amongst the most successful was Arzu Altun who gained an A* in sociology, an A in politics and B in history and plans to study politics at King’s College London.
She said, “I did really well, I am so happy with my results.”
Maria Zuniga Zapata is going to study biochemical engineering after gaining an A in maths and Bs in biology and chemistry.
“I’m so happy with my A, I am really excited to start the next chapter at UCL. A word of advice would be: don’t be too harsh on yourself, you are capable”, she said.
Dipo Akinwale achieved As in law and politics and a grade B in economics and plans to go to the University of Birmingham to study law.
Dipo said: “I am proud of the hard work I have put in throughout the years to get me here today. Thank you to my teachers for believing in me”.
Jonathan Khoo, the school’s director of sixth form said: “We are an inclusive Sixth Form often with lower entry requirements than some other local sixth forms. For 75 per cent to achieve the highest grades is a real credit to the students and the Urswick School.”
Cardinal Pole
Over at Cardinal Pole Catholic School, over three quarters of students achieved at least grade C.
Standout results were posted by the sociology department, with 91 per cent achieving A*-C grades, and the history department, boasting 91 per cent A*-C and 55 per cent A*-B grades.
BTEC subjects at Cardinal Pole also performed well, with a 100 per cent of students attaining at least MMM and 44 per cent D*-D grades.
A-Level highlights from individual students include Alegresse with AAA; Kesha with A*AB; Esther with AAB; Chidera with AAB.
Standout CTEC performances came from from Tobi with D*D*D*; Anna with DD*D* and Grace with DDD*.
Cardinal Pole student Alegresse said: “I’m really pleased with my triple A grades. The staff at Cardinal Pole were instrumental in helping me achieve my dream grades, and thanks to them, I’m going on to study business finance at City University.”
Chidera added, “I’m so thankful to my parents, friends, and teachers for their support. I’ll be studying medicinal chemistry at Warwick University, and I’m really excited about the future and what’s coming next!”
Headteacher Adam Hall commented: “These results are a testament to the exceptional efforts of our students, the unwavering support of their families, and the dedication of our talented teaching staff. Our students’ hard work and resilience have truly paid off.”
Mossbourne Sixth Form
Meanwhile, at Mossbourne Sixth Form over a third of students received exclusively A*-A results and 18 per cent of all A-Levels were awarded A*.
A full 75 per cent of the A-levels taken at the college this year achieved A*-B grades, and in economics, 92 per cent of all grades were A*-A and in further maths the figure was 100 per cent.
Nikoloas Woke was awarded A*s in biology, chemistry and maths and he will be going on to study medicine at Queen Mary, University of London.
Lucas Clarke, who garnered an impressive four A* grades will be reading engineering at Selwyn College, Cambridge.
BSix Sixth Form College
BSix Sixth Form College boasted an overall pass rate of 98.4 per cent across A level and vocational results, with an impressive 37.2 per cent of the 390 A level entries achieving grades A*-B.
Level 3 vocational students at BSix achieved 100 per cent pass rate in nine of 11 subjects.
New City College
At New City College’s campus in Hoxton, Level 3 BTEC students have achieved a mammoth 99 per cent pass rate across all subjects offered, including business, creative industries subjects, health and social care, IT and sport.
