London Fields and Stoke Newington by-elections announced
Voters are off to the polls next month as two by-elections have been called for 12 September 2024.
The by-elections are being contested in London Fields and Stoke Newington wards .
The by-election in London Fields has been triggered by the resignation and arrest of former deputy speaker Lee Laudat-Scott, 48.
The former councillor quit ahead of appearing in Thames Magistrates Court on 18 July, where he was charged with “intentionally touching” a child under 13.
He is to appear in Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday 15 August.
Laudat-Scott was elected as deputy speaker in May and had sat on the Town Hall’s children and young people’s scrutiny commission.
Residents in Stoke Newington will also be voting for a new representative, after former Cllr Mete Coban resigned to take up his City Hall appointment as Sadiq Khan’s deputy mayor for environment and energy.

Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on 27 August 2024. Applications can be made online: Register to vote.
Voters will need to show photo ID when voting in person in this by-election.

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services by 5pm 4 September 2024.
