Titbits – Slick and tyred

◆ Nike, the last remaining inhabitant of the bedevilled Hackney Walk development, finally upped sticks recently. It prompted a TV reporter to interview local planning expert Nick Perry at what was once optimistically known as the Fashion Hub. As the cameras were rolling, they heard a crashing sound, followed soon after by a lone car hubcap spinning into view. What a twist of fate. Or was it? Perry later tweeted his 2013 warning that, if the scheme was to fail, “we will inevitably end up with residential conversions that will spin the Fashion Hub into a not-so-fashionable flat tyre”. No wonder he enjoys planning with predictions like that!

◆ Titbits was pleased to see that the Citizen was commended in this year’s Newspaper Awards: “a slick publication with superb front cover illustrations. Great local issues explored by this constant high performer and judges noted it was great to see an independent title securing a contract for public notices – a brilliant achievement”. Hurrah!
