Titbits – Church eating and a Priti strange greeting
◆ Christmas Eve at St Paul’s West Hackney, and, according to the church’s Twitter account: “Father Justin is currently in the vestry playing the Russian roulette of ‘dog treat’ or ‘fisherman’s friend’.” If only wearing the collar gave you the sense of smell, eh?
◆ Hackney MP Diane Abbott drew our attention to the official Christmas card of former Home Secretary Priti Patel. A cartoon shows Patel as the fairy on a Christmas tree decorated with baubles that display her own list of achievements in office. ‘Law and order’ is written on one. The vague ‘National security’ is on another. And the biggest bauble simply states ‘Rwanda’ – which Abbott rightly calls “bizarre”. Even stranger is the sign carrying the message ‘For Ukraine’ that points to a boyish caricature of Boris Johnson opening presents at the foot of the tree. What is meant to represent generosity to a European ally instead makes it look as though she wants to ship her old boss off to a warzone. Not very Christmassy, Priti!
