Poetry: Our Children by Tamara von Werthern

Our children

Our children will remember this year

All over the world

As the year when hugs were dangerous

And they longed to go back to school

They might remember it as the year

When skies were empty and blue

When the air suddenly smelled sweet again

Even though it was rationed and rare

Our children might think of it as innocence

When we thought pandemics were rare

Or they might think of it as the turning point

After which we made things more fair
