Titbits – Revealing demo and a frosty hello
◆ The Town Hall was keen to show off its new electronic voting system for councillors last month.
Unfortunately, in front of a packed full council meeting, the technology glitched and appeared to reveal that a number of prominent cabinet members had voted against resetting a cut to council tax support.
Mayor Glanville quickly caught the eye of our reporter and shouted: “The titbits write themselves!”
Indeed they do!
◆ Another awkward moment from the same meeting when Kofo David was introduced as the new Clissold ward councillor following his by-election win in December.
David’s selection as a Labour candidate was called into question over historic allegations of harassment and bullying, and he was later accused of threatening to kick a Green Party activist on election night.
When Hackney Speaker Kam Adams formally welcomed Cllr David to the chamber, he rather optimistically paused for an applause break.
Cue a very uncomfortable four seconds – we counted – of deathly silence before someone set off a light smattering.
