Titbits – Applesauce and idle talk
◆ Two appearances in this column in two months for Hackney’s deputy mayor and now candidate for MP in Enfield, Feryal Clark.
Taking to Twitter to post a photo of herself with “budding journalist Rees”, Clark sad-faces as she tells her followers she is the only one to have given him an interview, adding: “This candidate always has time for local journalists.” It’s Panto season, so why the hell not: “Oh no she doesn’t!”
New borough, new approach it seems. Or, as this column touched on last month, perhaps Clark’s just doing every interview she can to convince Labour’s Enfield members that she really cares about their constituency?
◆ I don’t know if you know, reader, but Hackney’s environment chief Cllr Jon Burke really, really doesn’t like engine idling. So much so that the Liverpudlian enforcer has been known to film himself giving shocked drivers what-for in the street.
So imagine his fury when a troll tweeted at him: “I’m going to enjoy a big steak in my 4×4 and I’ll be sure to leave the engine on as long as possible.”
Burke’s reply: “Make sure you open the garage door, moron.” Oof.
