Goose Island Brewery in hunt for local beer talent as new Shoreditch brewpub given summer opening date
Chicago brewery Goose Island will open a new pub in Shoreditch in late summer, it was announced this week.
Upon opening, the brewpub (their second in the UK, the first being Goose Island Tap House in Balham) will crank out new small-batch drinks alongside the company’s popular core range, which includes 312 Wheat, Honkers Ale and their Goose Island IPA.
To this end, the 30-year beer veterans are also looking for a brewmaster to ‘be the face’ of the new taproom and creatively drive the development of both the pub and their new bespoke ales.
According to the listing on LinkedIn, the successful applicant will score a month long trip to Chicago, a Goose Island Single Speed bicycle, and a ‘monthly beer allowance’ a Goose Island Cooler box that will be topped up monthly and twenty pints at the Brewpub per month for friends and family.
Goose Island’s history is tied up with the UK – founder John Hall used an ale-soaked trip to London as inspiration when setting up the US business in 1988, at a time where craft beer was nowhere near the global juggernaut it is now.
Their 312 wheat beer is a favourite of former President and Chicago native Barack Obama, who called it “a very superior beer” in 2014, and even paid off a World Cup bet with David Cameron with a case of the 4.2% ABV bottles.
Goose Island plan on releasing the exact location of the new pub in the coming weeks.
Ken Stout, President of Goose Island, said: “We’ve been on an incredible journey here in the UK and are looking forward to this next chapter.
“We’re so flattered and excited about the reception that Goose Island beer has enjoyed in London and we want to continue to share and contribute to the incomparable beer culture in the UK.”
