Since the invention of the cocktail around the turn of the 20th century, through it’s ‘shaken not stirred’ mass popularity and links to Bond, and up to the present day gin renaissance – Martinis have taken the world by storm, enough to even have their own emoji. (🍸)

But which is best? It’s a question due to be answered this month, right here in Hackney, as the World’s Best Martini Challenge final hits Amhurst Road music venue OSLO.

Five Boutique gin makers from around the British Isles will compete against last year’s winners Daffy’s Gin for the giant Martini glass trophy, and for tickets priced from £15 attendees can sample a ‘showcase’ and a classic Martini from each supplier.

If you’re still standing, you can then assist the judges – the bar world’s Anna Sebastian and Rich Hunt (owner of Mint Gun Club) and Mark Ludmon, editor of Bar Magazine – in making the final call.

Competitors will include Irish distillers Bertha’s Revenge, Scots Arbikie, and Kokoro Gin, whose ‘showcase’ drink uses the Japanese Sansho Berry.

The event takes place on Thursday 18th January from 6:30pm to 11:30pm.
