Dalston doctors’ surgery triumphs at National GP Awards

Richmond Road Medical Centre has become the first practice in Hackney to win a prestigious National GP Award – taking home 2017’s Team of the Year prize.
The accolade, which was presented to staff at a ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel last month, celebrates the team that had the “largest positive impact on improving patient care in their GP practice and their local area”.
Dr Gopal Mehta said: “This is a huge achievement not just for our practice alone but for the entire borough of Hackney as we were fully supported and recommended by the City and Hackney CCG and the GP Confederation.
“The award is a true testament to the commitment and dedication that our whole team has put into the practice and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them all.”
The surgery got the nod ahead of five others on the shortlist, which had already been whittled down from hundreds of nominations across England.
Over the past two years, the practice said it has “invested a significant amount of energy to tailor their services in order to meet the demands of its changing population group”.
It has introduced a same-day registration service, a pioneering access model that “ensures all registered patients are seen within 48 hours of making contact with the surgery”, and is the first in Hackney to host “practice-based yoga and mindfulness classes”.
Many patients on the NHS Choices website praise the quick and easy access to doctors at Richmond Road.
The team also receives plaudits for its dedication, thoughtfulness and professionalism.
A spokesperson for the surgery said: “This highlights the positive impact our modifications are having on our patient group and is very rewarding.
“It is also gratifying to read the positive comments about experience with both administrative staff and the clinicians.
“Feedback is shared with the entire team and acts as a driver for ongoing improvement in service delivery.”
