Town Hall misses high priority blaze threat targets three times
Hackney Council failed to fix a trio of high priority fire risks at three of its blocks within the time limit recommended by safety experts.
FRA guidelines suggest so-called P1 risks – the second highest category – are addressed within one month.
But a faulty fire alarm at Brooklime House was not fixed for 37 days, and a “combustible” chair in an escape route at Patten House was left for 35 days.
A third P1, asking the council to replace the doors to two flats at Chadworth House with 30-minute fire resistant models, is yet to be addressed – more than two months after from the assessment.
All three P1s were among the first batch of 15 FRAs published by the Town Hall.
Commenting on Chadworth House, a council spokesperson said: “In the case of leaseholder-owned doors, there is a legal process that we must go through before replacing them. The doors themselves take some time for the manufacturer to supply and then be fitted.”
Under each of the three P1s, the surveyor has written: “London Borough of Hackney previously informed.”
When the council was asked exactly what this phrase meant, and when it was first told about the three P1s, it failed to respond.
