VIDEO: Palm 2 shopkeeper suffers brutal crowbar assault in attempted robbery

A Hackney shopkeeper suffered a broken cheek bone after he was viciously assaulted by two masked men as he was closing up for the night.

The attackers forced their way into Palm 2 Store on Lower Clapton Road and demanded the 34-year-old victim open the shop’s ATM. When he was unable to do so, the men repeatedly beat him over the head with a crowbar and smashed his knees.

The attack lasted almost 10 minutes before the suspects fled empty-handed.

The victim was taken to hospital suffering from injuries including a fractured cheek bone, a broken finger, cuts and bruises.

Police have released CCTV footage of the incident, which happened shortly after midnight on 21 November last year, and appealed for any witnesses to come forward with information.

Detective Inspector Paul Ridley of Hackney CID said: “This was a particularly savage attack with an unnecessary and sustained level of violence resulting in significant injuries to the victim.

“Although the two males have their faces partially covered, I am convinced that somebody will be able to recognise them from this footage and I would urge them to contact me or a member of my team.

“It is vitally important that we find these men in order to prevent them from carrying out further violence against other potential victims.

“I can personally assure you that all information received will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”

Anyone who recognises the men, or was in the area at the time of the attack, is asked to contact Hackney CID via 101, or by tweeting @MetCC.
