Another stabbing: Police called to Kingsland High Street after latest attack
A man aged in his 30s was found stabbed in the early morning in Kingsland High Street yesterday.
Hackney Police tweeted about a man with a “life threatening stab wound”, but the Metropolitan Police’s HQ later said the injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
A spokesperson for the Met said: “Police were called shortly after 5:30am on Sunday, 22 January, to reports of an injured man on Kingsland High Street, N16.
“Officers attended and found a man suffering from stab injuries. Police officers administered first aid prior to the arrival of the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
“The man – believed to be aged in his early 30s – was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
“Detectives from Hackney CID are currently investigating.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Hackney CID via 101. They can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
It is the latest in a series of knife attacks in and around Dalston this month. On January 8 a man in his 20s suffering from multiple knife wounds was found in Arcola Street.
That followed what appeared to have been a similar incident earlier on the same day.
Around a week later, there was another stabbing, this time in Coopersale Road, Homerton, and police also tweeted about a separate incident in Stoke Newington, in which a man carrying a blade was apprehended while trying to stab someone.
According to some experts the apparent spike in knife crime may be related to declining use of stop and search powers.
This Wednesday at a full council meeting Councillor Sophie Conway is due to quiz deputy mayor Anntoinette Bramble about what, if any, “interventions” are being “offered” to perpetrators, victims and witnesses of incidents like the knifing of three youngsters over the Christmas period.
The Hackney Citizen has written to New Scotland Yard to request to hear from the borough commander, Chief Supt Simon Laurence, about what is being done by police to try and curb knife crime locally.
A spokesperson for the Met confirmed our request for an interview had been received and was being considered.
