Seminal electronic music pioneer Aphex Twin is to headline his first UK show in almost a decade at next year’s Field Day festival, it has been announced.

The musical tour-de-force will play a rare two hour set on the festival’s brand new indoor stage arena ‘The Barn’, a gigantic hanger-like construction with a state of the art high-powered sound system and apparently one of the most technologically advanced lighting rigs around.

Field Day 2017 takes place on Saturday 3 June, consolidating into one day, though organisers promise a line-up as comprehensive and diverse as ever.

The enigmatic producer Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) has been a mainstay on the electronic music scene since forming Rephlex Records in 1993, before going on to release a slew of tracks and albums on Warp.

Speaking about the announcement Field Day co-founder Tom Baker said: “It’s truly amazing to have Aphex Twin headline Field Day.

“I’ve been listening to him since I was 16, he played and curated some of the first ever Eat Your Own Ears nights so it’s an incredible honour to have him play our brand new indoor monolithic second main stage arena.

“It will be a phenomenal, mind blowing, mesmerisingly fantastic two hours of absolute genius.”

Tickets for Field Day go on sale 9am Thursday 1st December, available here and more information is available via the Field Day website.
