Meet the candidates for Hackney Mayor: Dawa Ma, One Love

Dawa Ma is standing for Mayor of Hackney for the newly formed “techno-progressive” One Love Party (OLP).

It was founded by Ankit Love, an artist and filmmaker who contested the London mayoral election earlier this year.

The OLP says it promotes greater use of new technology such as drones, driverless cars, robotics and artificial intelligence.

Its website states that air pollution is “a greater killer than malaria and HIV combined”.

It plans to ban all cars except electric and hydrogen vehicles.

Ma told the Hackney Citizen: “We have been very clear about what we want to achieve. One of the things is stopping air pollution. I’m going to talk more about it maybe after smoking a cigarette.”

She added: “We’re also thinking about legalising cannabis. It’s natural, it’s healthy, it’s proven to have good things for the body.”

She also said she wants to introduce “fashion gowns” – funky alternatives to the blue clothing in-patients are normally given – for children in NHS hospitals and wants John Paul Gaultier to design school uniforms.

Originally from France, she is an artist and has lived in England for four years. She proposes holding a second EU referendum in Hackney, in which 16 and 17-year-olds as well as foreign EU nationals would be permitted to vote, and encouraging all other local authorities to do the same.

Ma said: “Do you think I want to go back to my country when they pass different crazy laws? In England you still have freedom of speech. You still have freedom of many, many things.”

The party also wants to send missions to mine asteroids and establish human colonies on Mars and Venus to “ensure the survival of the human race”. It is concerned an asteroid striking earth could wipe out mankind.

According to its website, the OLP is seeking the eventual merging of all armies worldwide.

On housing, the party proposes borrowing money to build the tallest building in the world – taller than the 163 storey Burj Khalifa – in Hackney for social rent. A flatpack skyscraper, they claim it could be built in 90 days.

Ma lives in Kilburn, according to the statement of official nominees.
