New Kid – footwear with Florentine flair now available from new Dalston shoe store

New Kid on Ridley Road, Dalston.

Based in Florence, Italy, New Kid are 3 women creating shoes, clothing and accessories for anyone and everyone (except children). They work small scale and focus on designing unique and affordable shoes and clothing that are distinctly European, but not bound by tradition. Using simple forms—some oversized and many unisex—combined with especially unique materials, including hand dyed velvet, flocked suede, rubber coated leather and a selection of handwoven cottons from India.

Last month they opened a new and very cosy store on Ridley Rd, Dalston. They’ve transformed what was once a hair salon into a compact emporium of colour and texture, which they have notionally coined ‘Tiny Store’. Garments are strung up over the walls, shoes line the walls and the simple home-made furniture creates an unusually warm and inviting place for such a matchbox of a store.

A made to order service is available for garments and select footwear styles, so if you struggle to find your size or you are after a particular colour palette, they can create custom pieces for you. Throughout the summer they’ll be having aperitivi evenings, snacks and drinks Italian style, spilling out onto the market street: keep an eye on their Instagram (@newkidfootwear) for future dates.

The Tiny Store is open seven days from midday. So swing by and feel their warm exuberant magic amongst the swell of Dalston’s market traders.
