Roll up roll up: Actors to enact stories of asylum seekers and refugees

A Hackney bakery is the venue for a series of dramatic enactments of the stories of asylum seekers and refugees.

Members of the Actors for Human Rights group will perform Refugee Stories at the E5 Bakehouse to draw attention to the plight of displaced people.

The stories, taken from interviews, include an unlikely friendship between a 55-year-old BNP supporter who ended up saving his cleaner from deportation, as well as hard-hitting tales of trafficking and child refugees.

“People will hear some really interesting stories and then hear about things that they can actually do to help,” said theatre company director Charlotte George.

Each performance will be accompanied by international food from E5 Bakehouse and followed by question and answer sessions with a refugee charity.
