Teenage moped rider dies and another injured in police chase

A teenage moped rider has died and another was seriously injured following a chase by police.

Police had been pursuing the moped by helicopter and in patrol cars this morning, following an earlier theft on Kingsland Road.

The moped smashed into a van on Upper Clapton Road just before noon.

Part of Clapton Common was cordoned off this afternoon as police, residents and medics tried to help the crash victims.

The police watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), has been informed.
