Man arrested for assault at former Mare Street squat
A man who was arrested while hiding in a notorious former squat on Mare Street has been charged with two counts of assault.
On Wednesday 27 January police investigating an allegation of assault were called to a grade-II listed mansion at 195 Mare Street.
The building was previously occupied by a group of activists until the High Court ordered their eviction in 2013.
Police dragged Kamil Nowak from the building and piled him into a police van. One fire engine, three police cars and another van were also at the scene.
Police today charged Nowak, 32, of Mare Street with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault on police and possession of cannabis.
Nowak has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wood Green Crown Court on 26 February.
