Police officer shot and wounded in Haggerston

A police officer was rushed to hospital this afternoon after being shot in Haggerston during an operation by the Met’s Trident gang crime unit.

The officer was injured during an “authorised firearms operation” on Scriven Street, according to police.

The male police officer was taken to an east London hospital for treatment after the shooting, where his condition is reportedly stable.

One man was arrested at the scene.

A police statement said: “At around 12:45 Thursday, 15 October an authorised firearms operation by officers from the Met’s Specialist Firearms Command (SCO19) and Trident Area Crime Command was taking place in Scriven Street, when a firearm was discharged.”

“A male police officer has been taken to an east London hospital suffering a gunshot wound.

“There are no reports of any other injured persons at this time.”
