Titbits — In vogue politicians, prohibition and spin
■ In a game of Labour leadership top trumps, Jeremy Corbyn would surely rank high for idealism, but fare less well in the sartorial stakes. Not so, according to fashion designer Katharine Hamnett CBE. Chatting to Titbits in the back row of the MPs arts policy launch at the Arcola, Ms Hamnett held up the in vogue left-winger as a normcore icon. “Jumpers knitted by his mum? Perfect,” the fashionista purred. “You don’t need to wear a suit, informality is his power. I love the fact he wears vests under his shirt, the simplicity.”
■ Whoopsy! We’ve discovered some errors in our highly controversial licensing policy, the council recently admitted cheerily. But don’t fret, nothing to do with nightclubs, just little slip-up on takeaway times. We’ll scrap it and start again! And hold a public debate! A little digging showed no “minor error” but four major gaffes, which lo and behold – did relate to opening hours. Previously, in the ‘we’re not criminalising the homeless’ episode, Councillor Sophie Linden blamed “misleading headlines” for confusing the public, but is it not the good folk at the Town Hall spinning the yarns?
■ A major alcohol brand’s advertising drive has, perhaps unwittingly, struck gold with its recent ad campaign. Hackney billboards now read: ‘We remember prohibition. It was a blast’, as if offering acute satire on Hackney Council’s strict new licensing plans.
