Police appeal following second dog attack in Clissold Park

A 48 year-old woman was bitten on the hand as she tried to stop a staffordshire bull terrier attacking her doberman in Clissold Park, in the second attack of this kind in recent months.

Police say the attacks are causing concern amongst the ‘dog walking fraternity’ and are  appealing for anyone with information on the attack, which happened on 15 July at 5:30pm, to come forward.

The attack took place as a female owner was walking her doberman off its lead near the drinking fountain. A staffie described as “round faced” and  “brown and white coloured”escaped from its owners lead and bit the doberman on the leg and neck.

When the doberman’s owner tried to break up the dogs she was bitten on her hand. The staffie only released the doberman when she managed to wrap her lead round its neck.

The owner of the staffie then ran away with his dog. He was described as a 6ft 1 black man with a heavy build in his mid to late twenties.

The Doberman was taken to a vet and underwent emergency treatment, costing more than £2,000.

PC Barry Salambasis of Hackney borough, who is investigating the incident, said: “This is the second dog attack that has occurred in the park. Seeing your pet attacked is quite a traumatic experience for any owner.

“These incidents which are at this stage are not thought to be linked are causing concern among dog walking fraternity.”
