Man dies and 13 are injured when car and bus collide in Clapton
A man believed to be in his twenties died and 13 people were injured when a car collided with an N38 night bus in the early hours of today.
Police said the incident took place shortly before 2.20am in Lea Bridge Road at the junction with Essex Wharf, Clapton.
A Metropolitan Police statement added: “One man who was in the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.
“Another man who was in the car was taken to an east London hospital where his condition is described as critical.”
Two men who were in the back of the car suffered injuries and are in a “serious but stable” condition
The Met Police added: “Ambulance crews also treated around 10 walking wounded who were passengers on the bus.
“A number of those have been taken to hospital by another bus supplied by Transport for London.
“We await further details but it is thought they all suffered minor injuries.”
No arrests have been made.
There are road closures in place running from Chatsworth Road with the junction of Lea Bridge Road to Orient Way with the junction with Lea Bridge Road, and drivers are being advised to avoid this area.
