Fit women, young women, older women, chatty women,  stressed-out women, mothers, grandmothers, daughters…

Women who want to relax, women whose religion or comfort zone says “no men here”, women who want their “me” time …

All have been going to Sunstone Women, the fitness club, gym, beauty salon and spa (including luxury pampering or fun hen parties), and therapy clinic in Stoke Newington, some even since it opened over 21 years ago.

What is special and why has Sunstone survived and flourished while lots of other women-only gyms and spas have shut their doors? Even the Sanctuary in Covent Garden is closing in May.

When the ribbon was cut at the opening ceremony by Tessa Sanderson OBE, Olympic Gold Medallist, she welcomed the visitors to a unique building: “once a chapel, then a synagogue, now a temple of health”.

Others have remarked on the mixed race, diverse ethnicity, age span, and camaraderie among members and visitors and that’s perhaps why Sunstone staff, members and visitors have been interviewed by the press and even why the club was asked to be used in the making of a film (The request was refused by the director to protect the integrity and consistency of the “women-only” ethos.).

How has Sunstone Women succeeded? Don’t take our word for it – come and have a look and learn new things about the women’s world that could be your world just around the corner.

Sunstone is having an open evening, with free trials of face mapping and other beauty treatments by experts, the launch of podiatry and posturology, a demonstration by the new aesthetics (botox) doctor, a welcome to our new (organic) hairdresser and the opening of a new women only coffee bar with special Colombian coffee beans and chocolate bars.
