Fans of an historic Homerton pub threatened with demolition after its owner filed an application to demolish it and replace it with flats are celebrating after Hackney Council refused planning permission for the scheme.

Council officers have flung out Sandeep Johal’s application to flatten The Prince Edward in Wick Road and replace it with a five-storey apartment block containing nine private flats.
