Hackney MP Diane Abbott sacked as shadow health minister

MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington Diane Abbott has been sacked as shadow health minister by Ed Miliband as part of a reshuffle of Labour’s front bench.

After being sacked, she told the BBC: “I think Ed wanted more message discipline.”

A spokesperson for Ms Abbott told the Hackney Citizen: “We have no further comment.”

Ms Abbott, an outspoken member of the shadow cabinet, had stood against Mr Miliband in the leadership election that followed the party’s ousting from government.

She recently clashed with Mr Miliband when she called on the Labour leader to do more to challenge Conservative plans to place tighter restrictions on immigration.
