Hackney’s School of Folk Music is set to whip up a storm, having launched the borough’s first ever folk class late last month.

The school offers tuition for those wanting to play instruments including the fiddle and the tin whistle.

Also available are bodhran lessons teaching budding musicians how to play a hand-held Irish drum, something that is becoming increasingly popular in the Celtic music world.

Molly Mulready-Jones, fiddle and tin whistle teacher at the school, said: “We’d like to teach the world to sing… and play tin whistle, fiddle, bodhran, mandolin, cello and guitar.”

While the classes are primarily aimed at children aged eight plus, adult fiddle and tin whistle lessons are also offered later in the evening.

The school gathers for an ‘all in’ band session after the instrument specific lessons, bringing together the talents of pupils and teachers with the aim of creating “good times and lovely sounds”.

The Hackney School of Folk Music gathers every Thursday evening at St Thomas More Church Hall, Henry Road, N4 2LH. Class times and prices vary
