Gert expectations: post-punk all female band rev up for album launch
A Hackney based feminist post-punk band will release their new album in October, 16 years after playing their first gig in the borough.
Four-piece all female band Gertrude played near London Fields in 1996 and have since performed all over the globe.
They are now putting the finishing touches to their new album, Love Axe Wish List, which will be available on vinyl.
The album is being edited in Curved Studios on Mare Street and a copy will be donated to the Vinyl Library in Stoke Newington.
Fans can count on an album with lots of vocals and punk rock attitude.
The choice of instruments gives Gertrude’s songs a unique sound.
The standard rock instruments – electric guitar, drums and base – are mixed with melodica and clarinet.
Gertrude will be playing their new work for the first time at The Lexington in Angel on 27 October. Only a handful of copies of the album will be available in CD form and these can be ordered from gertrude.bandcamp.com. Love Axe Wish List will also be available also on iTunes.
