Jaguar drops opposition to JaguarShoes trademark
Popular Shoreditch bar JaguarShoes will not be forced to change its name after luxury car manufacturer Jaguar withdrew its opposition to the venue’s trademark.
The bar on Kingsland Road was locked in a dispute with Jaguar for over two years, and JaguarShoes’ founders, brother and sister Nick and Teresa Letchford, had previously said that they hoped to reach a compromise with the motoring giant to allow the two brands to coexist.
An online petition set up in support of the bar received over 1,000 signatures from people who said they had never experienced any confusion between JaguarShoes and the similarly named car brand.
Today (Friday) JaguarShoes emailed supporters a statement saying an agreement had been reached.
A Jaguar Cars spokeswoman said: “I can confirm that the matter has now been resolved, but due to a confidentiality clause we cannot comment on the matter any further.”
