Let’s bounce! Life size replica of Stonehenge to be showcased at Open East Festival
A life size bouncy castle replica of Stonehenge will form part of an artistic extravaganza at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The inflatable artwork based on the prehistoric monument was created by Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller.
It will be transported to East London for the Open East Festival, a weekend of music, food and theatre celebrating the first anniversary of the London 2012 Olympic Games on 27 and 28 July.
While the real Stonehenge is off limits to everyone except druids who gather there for the solstice, the blow-up version, called Sacrilege, can be bounced on by visitors who will also be able to enjoy works by other popular artists including Bob and Roberta Smith, Gavin Turk and Pure Evil.
Sacrilege toured the UK as part of the London 2012 Festival celebrations, delighting visitors the length and breadth of the country throughout the summer. Originally co-commissioned by Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art, Create London and the Mayor of London, it has since toured the world travelling as far afield as Paris and Hong Kong.
Visitors will also be able to try beers produced within a 10 mile radius of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park at The Ten Mile Beer Festival, which will feature The Five Point Brewing Company and Hackney Wick-based Crate Brewery.
