A student was attacked on a Hackney train in what the police say was an unprovoked assault.

The attacker struck the student at 8:30pm on Sunday 9 September as the train arrived at Hackney Wick. He then fled the train and ran along the railway lines. delaying the train and leaving his victim with severe injuries to his jaw.

“At first, the man began to stare at the victim for a short while, before he suddenly began to punch him in the face, causing heavy bleeding and damage to his jaw,” said Detective Sargeant Alan Bardsley.

The 20-year-old student, who is from India, was taken to the hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.

The assailent was young white man with short brown hair, and was photographed clearly by the train’s security cameras. The police are seeking information to help identify him.

“This was a violent, unprovoked attack on an innocent man who was simply minding his own business,” said DS Bardsley.

“The CCTV images are of excellent quality and I am sure someone will recognise him,” he said.
