Upheaval at De Beauvoir Primary School as head teacher resigns
The headteacher at De Beauvoir Primary School has announced his resignation.
Vijay Bhanaut made the unexpected announcement that he is to step down from his role at the school off Kingsland Road at the end of the summer term.
Parents told the Hackney Citizen they feared the school would be left in limbo, impacting on their children’s education.
The Learning Trust, which runs the borough’s schools, said they had not asked Mr Bhanaut to quit and that it had met National Union of Teachers (NUT) representatives to discuss issues they had raised.
Mark Lushington from the Hackney branch of the NUT said: “We have experienced a long period of bad industrial relations with the management of the De Beavoir School, which we have consistently reported to the Learning Trust with no response. “That has been very frustrating for our members and, as we understand, for a considerable number of parents.”
