Talented Hackney oldies wanted
Are you retired and without an outlet for your skills? You could become one of The Amazings! The Hackney-based venture is looking to recruit people of near retirement age who have a skill set or knowledge base which can be turned into a product.
The idea was created by Sidekick Studios, a design studio specialising in social enterprise. Sidekick Studios use technology to create social ventures based around the needs of the general public.
The premise of The Amazings is to focus on the positive side of ageing and to channel the know-how of over-60s that is not currently used in full time employment.
The company will help people to market their expertise to the general public, allowing them to run the ventures and keep the majority of the money raised. Katie Harris, the project leader, said: “The Amazings can be made up of anyone that thinks they have got something interesting they can offer. They could be good at gardening, lived in Hackney their whole life, know how to make jam – anything basically! It will be up to us to help them think about how they make an experience and something that someone wants to buy!”
The venture is already underway and Katie Harris is looking for ten people to help with the prototype.
If you are interested in joining the venture or want to suggest some ideas, you can get involved at The Amazings!.
