Hackney Bulls charge against Harpenden
It was Sunday 30 January. On a cold and hard pitch Hackney were made to work hard before attaining their second consecutive bonus point win in the Herts and Middlesex Under-14 League 6.
The Bulls started the game strongly and their first try came quickly, despite playing into a brisk wind.
Hackney then struggled against Harpenden’s direct running and effective rucking, almost immediately conceding a try on the right wing after several phases of good Harpenden possession.
Harpenden failed with the conversion. Against the run of play, Hackney restored their lead.
For the remainder of the first half Hackney hung on to their lead, stifling Harpenden’s monopoly of possession with increasing difficulty.
However, the Bulls came out in the second half determined to impose themselves upon their smaller opposition.
The Bulls won 29 to 5.
