African and African-Caribbean Design Diaspora Festival 2010
An African and African-Caribbean design festival launches tomorrow (Sunday 26 September) at Dalston Eastern Curve Garden.
The evening kicks off a festival of performances and events, which promises to celebrate cultural identity and creative talent. Organised by the British European Design Group as part of its African and African-Caribbean Design Diaspora Project (AACDD), it showcases photography, ceramics, fine art, textiles, and drumming exhibitions.
All events are free of charge and aim to promote the creative skills of ethnic minorities of African and African-Caribbean descent. The AACDD project has long-term plans to support “creativity from the communities, with the communities, for the communities”. It has set out to provide a platform for African and Caribbean creativity and broaden its audience.
The festival marks the beginning of the project’s three year initiative, working towards a sizeable exhibition at the 2010 Olympics. The project consists of six events that take place in different venues across London. The festival’s launch takes place at Dalston Gardens (next door to the mural in Dalston Lane) 6pm-9pm, Sunday 26 September. Tickets are free, and you can book here.
Information for all events can be found on the African and African-Caribbean Design Diaspora Festival website, or you can find out more on facebook and twitter.
