Last chance to see: Among the Ruins
In 1970, Woolworths was the largest department store chain in the world but by 6 January 2009 it had closed down all its UK shops, with the loss of 30,000 jobs.
Among the Ruins is a series of photos taken in Leytonstone Woolworths shortly after it closed down, together with text from staff and customers taken from Facebook.
An unsentimental look at the odd collection of objects left behind, and the remnants of life behind the scenes at the store, Haffner’s show is an exploration of the place that Woolworths occupied in popular culture.
