Stoke Newington murder – two men charged
Two men have been charged with the murder on Thursday, 19 November, of 19-year-old Michael McCarthy in Yoakley Road, Stoke Newington.
They are Mustafa Demirtas 20, and Julian Edwards 20, both of North London. Both will appear in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court today, Monday, 23 November.
The 19-year-old man who died in Stoke Newington on Thursday, 19 November has been named as Michael McCarthy. He lived in Yoakley Road.
Officers now know that Michael left his home to go to shops in Stoke Newington Church Street when he got involved in an altercation with two men. He was then stabbed and then run over by a car.
Police are continuing to appeal for information regarding a silver or grey Fiat Punto. The car, registration WN06 BVE, which was found near Welwyn Garden City on Friday 20 November, was seen driving away shortly after the incident.
The police particularly want to hear from anyone who saw the car shortly after the murder at approx 11pm on Thursday 19 November and before it was found on Friday 20 November.

Officers were called to the incident shortly after 11pm on Thursday 19 November to reports of man stabbed in Yoakley Road, N16. On arrival police discovered a 19-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The post mortem is taking place today, Monday 23 November at Poplar Mortuary.
