Publish account of all public spending, say campaigners
This Wednesday, MPs will be debating and and voting on whether the general public will be able to see reports that show how all public money is spent.
Local resident and campaigner Steve Shaw says, “Please email or phone your MP urgently asking them to ‘Please vote in support of Early Day Motion 1064 on Local Spending Reports at the main debate in Parliament this Wednesday.’”
Mr Shaw and other campaigners say that these Local Spending Reports should be published, arguing that this information is crucial for democratic accountability and government transparency.
The vote is on Early Day Motion 1064, which has cross-party support.
The Local Spending Reports are required under the Sustainable Communities Act 2007 and the Government promised they would include a breakdown of all public spending. However, campaigners say that Whitehall officials have been dragging their feet and so the work has not yet been done.
