Problems at the polls: some voters have been unable to cast their ballots

Hackney voters have complained of problems at their polling stations this morning, as they tried to cast their votes for a new London mayor and London Assembly members.

Some have said they were unable to vote.

Dan Webster complained on Twitter of being “unable to vote”:

Martin Wright also experienced problems, tweeting: “Just tried to vote at #stokenewingtontownhall. Long Q. Confused staff. Muddle over who on lists. No-one given ballot papers.”

Mr Wright told the Hackney Citizen: “It may just have been early morning teething problems! Queued up, people waiting, no-one being issued with ballot papers, apparent uncertainty over who on voter lists. Waited for 10 mins and gave up – fortunately live just down the road so will try again later.”

A Hackney Council spokesperson said: “We had a very busy start to the day at Stoke Newington Town Hall. As soon as we were made aware of this, we sent extra poll staff to help.”

Polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm.
