A peace march calling for an end to the senseless deaths “tearing up” local communities is to take place in Hackney this weekend.

The march is in memory of young father Moses Fadairo, who was shot dead aged 25 on Chatsworth Road in broad daylight last month.

Fadairo’s death came just weeks after Hoxton teenager Marcel Addai was stabbed to death on the St John’s Estate. The march is also in memory of Ben Kinsella, Alan Cartwright “and many more” victims of street violence.

Organised by The Crib youth club and other groups, residents will meet outside Haggerston Station at 2pm on Sunday and march to Hackney Town Hall.

Janette Collins, Project Manager from the Crib said: “This has to stop. Enough is enough – as a community we can no longer sit back and allow these senseless events to tear up our communities and continue to destroy our young people’s lives.”

Tracy Prescott who is helping to organise the march said: “The youths of today need to stop killing each other, our march is raising awareness that if we are united as community we can create change and then hopefully we will lots of support for the future to tackle this gun and knife culture.”

Staff at the Dalston-based youth initiative Bootstrap Campus, who worked with Moses Fadairo when he was a student, paid tribute to the “inspirational” young father.

A tribute on its website read: “These aren’t statistics or headlines. These are real people with human stories, real families, real stories, real dreams and ambitions. These are tomorrow’s leaders trapped in today’s cruel circumstances.”

Georgina Innes described Fadairo as “a true charmer”.  She said: “His sharp haircut, dapper style, and huge smile stand out in my memory of him. Friendly, open, enthusiastic, keen to learn, a real pleasure to work with.”

Dan Tsu wrote: “Moses Fadairo was honestly one of the most inspiring young people I’ve been lucky to teach – charismatic, brave and a kind soul. Always a gentleman. A born leader with a humble touch. A very rare quality.”

Deji Adeyoshun from Hackney CVS said: “Moses was a delightful young man who was full of energy and knew what he wanted from life”

“He had so much potential and we are absolutely devastated by what has happened. We pass own our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

The meeting point for the march is 2pm outside Haggerston Station, Lee Street, E8 4DY.
