Hackney Council joins legal action against Boris Johnson’s fire station cuts

Hackney Council has thrown its weight behind planned legal action against Mayor of London Boris Johnson’s controversial decision to close 10 fire stations.
Mr Johnson overturned a London Fire Authority decision in order to push through the closure plans, which would result in Kingsland Fire Station closing by 16 September.
Labour-run Hackney Council today confirmed that it supports plans, being led by neighbouring Islington Council, to seek a judicial review of the decision.
Mr Johnson has insisted safety is still a “top priority” and that the decision has been taken to ensure that there is a balanced Fire Authority budget for 2014-15.
