Chatsworth Road Market will be open every Sunday from today, 12 June from 11am to 4pm.

The market, situated between Dunlace Road and Blurton Road in Lower Clapton, has stalls selling a variety of cooked food, vintage clothing as well as household items, baby clothing and jewellery.

Diane Cunningham, chair of Chatsworth Road Traders and Residents Association (CRTRA), said:  “After years of campaigning by local residents and traders, we are delighted that Chatsworth Road will be Hackney’s newest weekly market. The market will continue to grow over the coming months with more stalls added to ensure local people and visitors alike make a visit to Chatsworth Road a regular part of their weekend.”

Many Chatsworth Road shopkeepers are optimistic about what the market could do for the local area.

Venetia Strangewayes-Booth is the owner of Venetia’s coffee shop and restaurant, which has been trading on the street since 2007. She said: ” I am delighted that the market is weekly now. It will be great for my business and the street.”

Rosie Higham-Stainton from independent bookshop The Book Box, which has traded on the street since 2006, said: “I think it’s a really great thing, to make it something regular. Having it every Sunday makes it more appealing, gaining more stalls and having a wider variety of traders coming along. It’s brilliant for us, and there’s such a great atmosphere when the market’s on.”

Sonny, owner of A & S Cycles, has traded on Chatsworth Road for 22 years. He said: “Some businesses are struggling at the moment, and I think the market will give them the boost they need. It will be good for the street and for business – Sunday is now my second-busiest day.”

Shah from Indian takeaway and cafe, Deli Spice, said: “Hopefully the market will improve the business and bring more people to Chatsworth Road, putting it on the radar.”

Councillor Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said: “I’m delighted that Hackney’s newest market, Chatsworth Road Market, is doing so well.  The council is committed to improving all of Hackney’s markets, and they need our support in order for them to continue to thrive. Markets like Chatsworth Road add to the vibrancy of our borough, so why not show your support and visit the Chatsworth Road Market one Sunday.”
